TEACHING STAFF

KATHY GILMOUR
PRINCIPAL
Kathy Gilmour is the Principal of Gilmour Dance Centre, which first opened its doors back in 1994, after she had been freelance teaching and choreographing groups, solo’s & duo’s for some of Brisbane’s most well respected Studios, even Johnny Young Talent School. Apparently even before Mrs Gilmour could walk and talk she just wanted to dance, moving in time with perfect rhythm, her parents knew something special was going on. She commenced dancing lessons in Bundaberg at age 5 (her teacher wouldn’t take students until school age) and so the journey began. Mrs Gilmour has studied both CSTD and RAD syllabi always with high results as she is a perfectionist, competed in Eisteddfod’s in all Solo, Duo & Group sections as well as winning Championships all over QLD. Her choreographic skills were being well honed early, choreographing groups & all school musicals from Grade 8 – 12 as well as solo’s for herself & others. She was only 12 when she commenced teaching for one of her dance teachers. At 17 she moved to Brisbane to study dance fulltime & had many performing opportunities including a solo in a piece choreographed by Graeme Murphy – a highlight. Mrs Gilmour has danced all of her life and has always passed on her dreams and love of dance through her students, children and now grandchildren. All of her students look up to her and regard her as their Idol, they worship her. Mrs Gilmour always teaches the students to strive to the best of their abilities and always tells them to never give up as anything is possible if you set your mind to it.·

Miss Mikaela attended her very first dancing lesson with the 'Gilmour Girls' at the age of 10. While at first coming from a gymnastics and sports acrobatics background, her love for dance grew every lesson she attended at Gilmour Dance Centre. Mikaela competed extensively in both gymnastics and sports acrobatics before turning to dancing and was named Australian National Champion along with her trio in 2010. Mikaela has since been dancing for 6 years now and has completed many dance exams. Her most recent exams include her CSTD Majors Intermediate Ballet, CSTD Advanced Theatrical, CSTD Modern Jazz Grade 7 and CSTD Tap Advanced Gold. Along with dancing, she has been teaching for Gilmour Dance Centre for the past 2 years and up until recently had been coaching with the acrobatics program at Amain Gymnastics. She has also gained an Acro Dance teaching qualification with Acrobatic Arts last year. Having recently graduated grade 12, Miss Mikaela now hopes to be able to take her dancing professionally and wishes to study dance full time. She will now also be working towards getting her student teachers qualifications with CSTD.
